Will Twapper Keeper keep the tweets forever?
Forever is a long time. But we do intend to store the archives indefinitely or pass them off to another organization to preserve if something happens. We also provide easy ways for users to export the data if desired.
Why do I have to login to create archives?
This is to reduce spam and to limit the archiving of person timelines to only the person who is logged in which has been brought up as a privacy concern by users (yes, we realize that things are public on Twitter, but people do get anxious when they see that someone else has started archiving their tweets)
I just created a notebook, will Twapper Keeper find older tweets?
The answer is yes, but don't expect miracles. Twapper Keeper will reach back as far Twitter allows (1500 for a given #hashtag or keyword [and must be in the last 7-10 days] and 3200 for a persons timeline of tweets) and will continue to monitor going forward
How does Twapper Keeper work?
We employ a unique mix of the Twitter Streaming API and Twitter Search API to try and get every tweet that our users want.
If a tweet is deleted from Twitter do you also delete the tweet?
As it stands now, we don't get notified by Twitter of the deletion (though we hope to in the future, so we can automatically delete). In the short term, let us know and we will delete on your behalf. We will also be implementing some opt-out features in the near future which will proactively remove tweets from the archives.
I just exported an archive. What do I do with this tar file?
.tar files can be opened by most compressions / zip tools (i.e. Winzip, etc)
I want to view the extract in Excel, what do I do?
Depending on the values selected when creating the archive, 1 or many files will be available after opening the .tar file. You can use the file import routine in most spreadsheet tools to open and view the tweets. (For example: http://www.ehow.com/how_4449036_import-delimited-file-excel.html) The INFO file is simply a summary of the extract routine.
